Riesling is one of the world's greatest white grapes. Really. If someone says they like Riesling you can't pigeonhole them they way you can with someone who says they like Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, which is a very singular and particular style. The style range that Riesling occupies is so vast, it's impossible to relegate a Riesling lover to just one.
Riesling is capable of making particularly expressive wines which give a true sense of place. The wines are long-lived and come in all sweetness levels, so you can drink them dry to sweet and from light to luscious. They can be low in alcohol (5%) to high (14%). Generally the aromas of Riesling are floral, fruity, and mineral. If those aromas get your salivary glands revved up, check out these delicious alternates.
