If you like Barolo, then you like the grape Nebbiolo. And if you enjoy that formidable structure -- high tannins, high acidity, high alcohol, but balanced - then seek out any the wines (or grapes!) below.
Barolo is on many people's radars now, so if you want to stay in Italy and drink Nebbiolo look for Barbaresco where there is tons of value. Also check out Roero, Gattinara, Ghemme, Lessona and Carema, all of which are in Piemonte, but don't miss Nebbiolo from Valtellina which is cheerful, gastronomic, and somewhat rustic.
What to pair with Nebbiolo and the alternates shown here: MEAT, especially if it's roasted. And any ilk of mushroom, particularly truffles.
