Principe Corsini

I don't tend to be a mouthpiece for large estates - they don't need me tootin' their horn! - but you have to know about Principe Corsini and, more specifically, their estate in Chianti Classico called Villa Le Corti. The family owns other properties, which I have not visited, but I spent a long afternoon at Villa Le Corti and was blown away by how seriously the family takes winemaking, their approach to organic and biodynamic farming, and their eyes-wide-openness to climate change. Located in San Casciano, it's only 30 minutes south of Florence and 100% worth the trip. Stay for lunch!

The Corsini family history is long and pretty spectacular. They arrived in Florence in the 1100s and for centuries held prominent positions in a variety of fields: financial, political, agricultural, and even ecclesiastical - they have a Pope in their family line, Clemente XII! Today the property is overseen by Duccio, whose kids stand to inherit one of the prettiest, oldest, and steadfast wineries in Chianti Classico. In addition to their Chianti Classico bottling, don't miss the 'Fico' or their Vin Santo.
