Not all Mencía grapes are a direct correlation to Malbec, but this one is: deeply colored, toothsome dark fruits; soft, integrated tannins; aromatic herbs and spices.

The guy who makes this wine, Alvaro Palacios, cut his teeth at the famous Château Pétrus in Bordeaux. So he knows how to coax out the best of what grapes have to offer to refine the juice into something textural, luxurious, and delicious. If you want to go a little more spendy, look for his L’Ermita and Finca Dofi bottlings from Priorat.
